CALL ME OLD-FASHIONED. OR A SWAN.
I don’t know about you guys, but I am head over heels in love right now, and there is no other man on the planet I want to be with. Only once before have I felt this strong pull of monogamy; way before, I was a cheater (sorry to say) even though I “loved” the people I was cheating on.

I don’t think feeling this way is a myth, it’s true. I believe that when you meet the right person, the RIGHT person, the one you’re meant to be with and not just fuck (even though those kinds of relationships are way fun), and if they treat you like a queen, you won’t want anyone else. Perhaps we’re all different, but surely I’m not the only one who has felt the desire to be monogamous with my man.

"The Bush Administration is up to its old tricks again, quietly putting ideology before science and..."

“
The Bush Administration is up to its old tricks again, quietly putting ideology before science and women’s health. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is poised to put in place new barriers to accessing common forms of contraception like birth control pills, emergency contraception and IUDs by labeling them “abortion.” These proposed regulations set to be released next week will allow healthcare providers to refuse to provide contraception to women who need it. We can’t let them get away with this underhanded move to undermine women’s health and that’s why I am sounding the alarm.

These rules pose a serious threat to providers and uninsured and low-income Americans seeking care. They could prevent providers of federally-funded family planning services, like Medicaid and Title X, from guaranteeing their patients access to the full range of comprehensive family planning services. They’ll also build significant barriers to counseling, education, contraception and preventive health services for those who need it most: low-income and uninsured women and men.

The regulations could even invalidate state laws that currently ensure access to contraception for many Americans. In fact, they describe New York and California’s laws requiring prescription drug insurance plans to provide coverage for contraceptives as part of “the problem.” These rules would even interfere with New York State law that ensures survivors of sexual assault and rape receive emergency contraception in hospital emergency rooms.
”

-
Hillary Clinton, An Outrageous Attempt by the Bush Administration to Undermine Women’s Rights | RHRealityCheck.org (via sarahchristine) (via julyshewillfly)

I turn 22 about a month from now — August 20th. Leo baby! (People usually guess I’m 26 or 27. Does this mean I look old or act older than my age? Hmm.)

Tell me, Tumblr advice would you give your 22-year-old self? Alternately, if you’re also turning 22, how do you plan to celebrate your terrible two redux?

Hooray for a fellow Leo!

I would tell my 22-yr-old self to not sweat it; life is pretty great if you don’t let yourself get bogged down by worries that don’t really matter. The world turns no matter what (until the sun swallows us anyway).

Don’t let men rule your thoughts or decisions, especially at 22.

Embrace your friends, have fun, don’t let work rule your life. Enjoy your youth!

The grassroots free-market group Americans for Prosperity Foundation (AFPF) is heading up a coalition of groups to organize RightOnline, which aims to establish a conservative counter-weight to the left’s web 2.0 community. RightOnline will be held in conjunction with the Texas Defending the American Dream Summit. “RightOnline is the starting point for conservatives to grow an effective online community of activists,” said AFPF Texas Director Peggy Venable. “To counter the big-government policies that are threatening the American Dream, we must establish a cyber-city on a hill.”

He does not offer himself as the agent of change, but as an advocate of the change that could be enacted by people. It is not for government to create solar power, for example, but to get out of the way of all those people who are ready to implement solar power, themselves. Responding to the willingness of people to act, he can remove regulations developed on behalf of the oil industry to restrict its proliferation. In an era when people have the ability to reprogram their reality, the job of leaders is to help facilitate this activity by tweaking legislation, or by supporting their efforts through better incentives or access to the necessary tools and capital. Change does not come from the top—but from the periphery. Not from a leader or a myth inspiring individuals to consent to it, but from people working to manifest it together. Open Source Democracy—which I wrote about a decade ago—is not simply a way to get candidates elected to office. It is a collective reprogramming of the social software, a disengagement from the myths through which we abdicate responsibility, and a reclamation of our role as citizens who participate in the creation of the society in which we want to live. This is not personal democracy at all, but a collective and participatory democracy where we finally accept our roles as the fully literate and engaged adults who can make this happen.”

-
Douglas Rushkoff (somethingchanged)

Do people actually still wait three dates for sex or two days to call back? If I fuck you, it usually means I like you, not the reverse.

Also, the last time I slept with someone on a first date, the sex was amazing. Then we fucked again on the second date. And the third. And then we stopped going on dates since I basically never left his apartment anyway (being quite busy with getting fucked and all). See how much wonderful sex people are missing out on by postponing what they want? STOP ABIDING BY THE RULES. THEY DON’T WORK.

(via lenachen)

Amen, Lena. I wrote a post about this earlier and deleted it, but after Lena spoke of this, I’m going to say it again:

I’ve slept with guys on the first date who turn out to be wonderful, loving boyfriends. I’ve given men chaste kisses on the cheek after dinner with no intention of ever calling them again. And every little thing in between.

Can we not make up “rules” about who sleeps with who / when / why? If you want to know if someone likes you… why not ask them, instead of assuming based off of some archaic sexual courtship dance?

Maybe I’m naive, but I don’t think sex should be a bargaining chip.
